I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. As we begin another four-day week, I want to remind everyone that attending school consistently is crucial to our children’s success.
Good attendance is vital for ensuring children are well-prepared for their transition into adulthood, equipping them with the skills needed for long-term success. Studies indicate that students with the highest attendance throughout their education achieve the best GCSE and A-level results.
Our Attendance Target for all children is a minimum of 98% over the course of the academic year, that’s no more than 4 missed school days.
Your child is expected to attend the Academy every day, on time, arriving no later than 8.35am. School begins at 8.40am. Please ensure your child arrives on time so that they benefit from the support and important information that is shared during line-up.
For further information on the importance of Attendance, our Attendance procedures and how we can support you and your child, please visit: Attendance – Ellis Guilford School
Should you have any concerns about your child´s attendance, please email: attendance@ellisguilfordschool.org.uk
The final exams are now underway with the first whole cohort exam taking place on Monday 12 May. It is crucial that Year 11 children are in school every day on time. There will be an exam briefing in the Hall before each exam. We wish them all the best of luck!
You can find the full timetable and revision tips on our Year 11 page here: ellisguilfordschool.org.uk/year-11-information
Years 8 and 9 will also be sitting assessments this term as follows:
The Netflix series Adolescence explores the theme of toxic masculinity through the story of Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy arrested for the murder of a classmate. The series delves into Jamie’s exposure to toxic masculinity, including his views towards women and the bullying he faces. It provides a poignant look at how these harmful beliefs can shape young minds and lead to tragic outcomes.
What is Toxic Masculinity?
Toxic masculinity refers to cultural norms and expectations that pressure men to behave in ways that are harmful to themselves and others. It often involves the suppression of emotions, the need to dominate, and the devaluation of traits considered “feminine.”
By understanding and addressing toxic masculinity, we can help create a healthier environment for our children to grow up in.
