Parent Briefing 28/4/25

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Weather

The weather is set to warm up this week. Please ensure that children bring their blazer to school every day. A daily decision will be made once the temperature rises during the late morning on whether blazers are required.

Please be reassured that children are never expected to wear their blazer at all times in lessons, we simply ask that they hang their blazer on the back of their chair.

Please encourage your child to bring a water bottle to school (all children were supplied with an EGS water bottle free of charge at the beginning of the year, but any will do). Please also encourage them to bring sun cream in their bag should they require it.

Uniform

A reminder please that, if worn, skirts should be knee length. Tailored grey (school) shorts can also be worn during the summer term.

Year 11

There are only 6 school days until the first Year 11 exam. Thank you once more to all staff who are working tirelessly to ensure that all children have everything they need to be successful.

Thank you also to parents for supporting us with ensuring Year 11 are accessing learning.

It is crucial that every Year 11 child is in school every day between now and the examinations. There is much preparation taking place, including specific information that has only just been released from the exam boards.

All Year 11 children will be in school full-time until their exams. In previous years, children who attend well, achieve higher than others. It is of upmost importance that your child is in school. They deserve to do their very best.

Year 7 and 8 PPEs

The next set of examinations for Years 7 and 8 are coming up. The children have been reminded of these. Revision sheets have been issued to children. Please encourage your child to be revising for these exams.

SAFEGUARDING

How to report crime and criminal behaviour

This week, our children will be learning about how to report crime and criminal behaviour to the police. Fearless.org is the child friendly version of CrimeStoppers and can be used by our children to report a crime or to give the police information 100% anonymously.  By working together, providing the police with information about drug dealing, knives, weapons and violence, we can all help to keep our children safe in the local community.

In school, we have a platform for reporting any school concerns which can also be used anonymously.  The Student Voice (TSV) is promoted in all classrooms and any information posted is received directly by the safeguarding team.

Equality & Diversity: LGBTQ+ Bullying & Hate

Last week, our children received training on the school value of “equality” with specific reference to LGBTQ+ bullying and hate. Ellis Guilford is a safe school, and we recognise and support the diversity of all of our children.  We actively promote British values which includes mutual respect and tolerance. We want to ensure that all our children are safe and supported, regardless of their sexuality or sexual orientation.

Data suggests that LGBTQ+ children are more likely to be the victim of bullying and less likely to report the concern.  We need to be clear to all children that we do not accept or tolerate bullying in any form and that we encourage our children to call out hate if it is seen or heard in our community.

The following article from the NSPCC contains good information and guidance on how parents can talk to their children about sexuality and sexual orientation.
