SAFEGUARDING

Self-Harm

This week, our children will be receiving information on how to seek support for themselves or their peers regarding self-harm.

Self-harm among teens is a serious issue. In 2024, studies suggest that an estimated 13% to 17% of adolescents engage in self-harming behaviours. And that these behaviours typically start between the ages of 11 to 15, and peak between 15 to 17.

Talking to your child about self-harm can be difficult and it is hard to know what to say.  This article by the NSPCC contains good advice: nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/childrens-mental-health/self-harm
