This year, our main whole school focus is on ‘community’ and ‘belonging’.
Belonging to a community is extremely important in the social development of our children. Students are enjoying being part of our new House system with its weekly competitions.
Last week, students researched their House name, producing some wonderful work, and also took part in a fun bottle-flip competition!
Click on the image below to view some of the great work from each of the Houses and to find out who won!
Family Dining has been a great success since we returned to school, sparked by the desire to unite our children. Every day they have the opportunity to gather in one central space and talk to staff and other children, as well as to play games. We now have some very skilled UNO and Dobble players in our midst!
Could I please remind parents to ensure money is uploaded to your child’s Arbor Pay account, should they require it for school meals. You can find out how to do this here.
Our annual Open Evening takes place on Wednesday 25 September from 6pm-8pm. Please do let your friends and family know, and encourage them to come along and visit us if they are considering their children joining the Ellis Guilford Family.
Staff and children will be on hand to talk to parents about what it means to be a part of #TeamEGS! Please click on the image above below for more information.
As the weather now turns Autumnal, please do remind children to bring a coat to school. Much of our site is outdoors, and although we have wet weather arrangements in place, children will find themselves outside when it is raining between lessons.
As the mornings and evenings begin to get darker, could I also ask you to speak to your children about the importance of staying safe on their way to and from school. This includes safety when using bikes or scooters.
On Thursday 3 October, Nottinghamshire Police will be attending EGS to provide a free bike registering service.
If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please read the letter here (printed copies are available from Reception).
Could I also take the opportunity to remind everyone that electric scooters are not permitted in school. These are illegal for children to ride, and as such, they are not allowed onto school premises.
Students who attend school every day this week will receive a yummy cookie on Fabulous Friday. There is a little treat on offer every Friday for those who attend every school day during that week. If your child attends every day in September, they will become a member of the 100 Club, guaranteeing them a ticket to the movies!
For a reminder of our Attendance procedures and how to contact the Attendance Team, please visit: Attendance – Ellis Guilford School.
Critical Incident Training
Last week we successfully practised a full fire evacuation. Your children were excellent – fully evacuating the school, and arriving in their fire evacuation assembly points in less than 5 minutes.
It is important that we prepare and train our children what to do for all emergency situations. To help with this, we will soon be practising a full school critical incident lockdown. There is no cause for concern – we are simply practising what to do should we need to keep our children safe by remaining in the buildings.
This would be a good time to discuss your own emergency plans should there be a concern in your home.
The link below will take you to a flyer from Gov.uk with good tips for planning for an emergency situation in the home.
If you have any Safeguarding concerns, please email: john.williams@ellisguilfordschool.org.uk
Our extra-curricular clubs – Ellis Electives – have really taken off with lots of children taking up new opportunities.
If your child would like to take part, please sign them up through the Arbor Parent App. You will find the full schedule along with details of how to sign up here: : Extra-curricular Activities – Ellis Guilford School
The Arbor Parent App is our main method of home-school communication as well as giving you access to Clubs, your child’s Guilford Gold, payments and personal data.
If you have not yet created your Arbor Parent Account, please do so as soon as possible. If you need any support with this, please ask at Main Reception. You can find out more here.
