MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Junior Leaders

I am absolutely thrilled to be able to announce that we appointed 36 children last week to become our new Junior Leadership Team.

We also appointed 5 House Captains and 5 House Vice-Captains.

This is a really ‘EGS’citing time for us as a school; our children have such incredible leadership skills and we cannot wait to develop them further.

Hello Yellow

Last week, we had a brilliant time supporting the ‘Hello Yellow’ day to recognise mental health in young people. Our children and staff wore something yellow and enjoyed delivering positive messages about reaching out for support with mental health. Click on the image to view photos from the day.

An update on Coco

Coco is now working with a number of children as he begins the next phase of his therapeutic training in school. This includes reading and emotional based literacy work.

Half-Term Holiday

School breaks up this coming Friday 18th October for half-term. Children are expected to attend until Friday at 3pm. Lessons will continue as normal.

I have asked children to be extra careful when taking uniform off and storing school bags/equipment over the break – we need everyone looking super smart and being super organised on our return.

Wishing all children, parents/carers and staff, a very restful break when it arrives.  I will look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 4th November at 8.35am.

Year 11 Half-Term Revision

Year 11 are invited to attend our Half-Term Revision sessions to help them prepare for the November Pre-Public exams. For all Year 11 information, please visit our Year 11 page on the school website.

Well done to last week’s winners of Pizza with the Principal. Every week, 10 students enjoy time out of lessons to share pizza together, having been nominated by members of staff during the week for being EGSellent in some way.

Each student also receives one of our new ‘Pizza with the Principal’ badges for their blazer. Click on the image to find out exactly why we think they are EGSellent!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

This week all pupils who attend a full week will receive a Tuck Shop treat on Fabulous Friday.

Those pupil who attended every day in September will be rewarded with either 250 Guilford Gold or a movie ticket to watch Hocus Pocus 2 on Thursday (Years 7 to 9) or Friday (Years 10 to 11).

For a reminder of our Attendance procedures and how to contact the Attendance Team, please visit: Attendance – Ellis Guilford School.

SAFEGUARDING

Protecting Children against Sexting

Sexting is defined as “the action or practice of sending sexually explicit photographs or messages via a mobile phone”.  It is very important that we educate our children about the dangers of sharing indecent images – whether they are requested by intimate partners or strangers.  Once an image is online, it can be impossible to remove it due to the ease of the image being copied and shared.

Remember, it is illegal for anyone to make, store or share an indecent image of a child under 18.  This applies to a child making, storing or sharing an indecent image of themselves

Please click the image to read a concerning article from the Independent.

As always, the NSPCC has great advice for parents on sexting.
