Year 10 Pre-Public Examinations & Parents’ Evening

Dear Parents/Carers

Re: Year 10 Pre-Public Examinations & Parents’ Evening

I write to inform you about the upcoming pre-public examinations (PPEs) that all pupils in year 10 will be sitting over a two-week period the week beginning 7th December and Year 10 parents evening that will be happening on Thursday, 3rd December.

Firstly, year 10 will be sitting their first set of pre-public examinations over a two-week period in December. The school will use these exams to not only get an accurate picture of the current working at grades for each pupil in each subject, but to analyse where gaps in knowledge are and adapt the curriculum accordingly, revisiting content that shows as needing further teaching.

It is therefore important that pupils prepare properly for these exams in a similar way to how they would for external examinations.

Pupils will soon be receiving guidance from each subject, through their google classroom, about what content will be tested in the exams. Each subject will also be providing additional information including links to websites and additional resources that will aid with their revision.

In the weeks leading up to the exams in December, we will provide support on how best to prepare for the exams not only from a subject content perspective, but also supporting positive mental health and wellbeing through tutor time and assemblies.

Further to this, we would like to invite you to attend year 10 parents’ evening on Thursday, 3rd December between 3.30pm and 7pm, to discuss your child’s progress in their exam subjects. Parents’ evening will look slightly different this year, and instead of face-face meetings, we will be running it virtually. We continue to use the Parents Evening System as in previous years. The only difference this year, you will log into the system at your scheduled time rather than attending school site.

Please make your appointments using the online system: https://ellisguilford.schoolcloud.co.uk/ A step-by-step guide can be found here. We will publish further guidance on approach to the evening on how to join virtually.

This is a consultation evening for Parents/Carers of all Year 10 students. Appointments can be made with each of your child’s subject teachers. The focus of the meetings will be about progress shown from the start of their GCSE courses and the upcoming PPEs.

Bookings will be available from Monday, 16th November 2020. If you experience any issues with creating the bookings, please contact the school on 0115 913 1338 to speak to our admin team who will be able to assist.

Yours faithfully,

Mr D Fugill

Vice Principal
